The SAGEA Awards are celebrated biennially and provide our members (Employers, Suppliers and Institutions of Higher Learning) with the opportunity to showcase their achievements in the field of graduate employment. The Awards provide members with a platform to view some of the best in class work that has been done in attracting and developing graduates as well as providing peer recognition for outstanding achievement.
The SAGEA Employer and Candidate Surveys
Each year, the outcome of several awards are determined by responses to either the SAGEA Employer Benchmarking Research or the SAGEA Candidate Insights Report. Both pieces of research are carried out on behalf of SAGEA by the UK-based specialist graduate research company, High Fliers Research Ltd. Launched in 2007, our research is conducted on an annual basis to support SAGEA members and review the success of their graduate talent attraction and development initiatives.

The winners of the 2017 awards are as follows:
On the evening of Wednesday 08 November SAGEA hosted a glittering Awards Evening at Kievits Kroon Country Estate outside Pretoria. Our host and entertainer extraordinaire for the evening was the talented and gracious Tumi Morake.
Awards were given for:
“Digital” refers to all digital elements of a graduate marketing campaign. These are accessible by all members of the general public, but specifically used to target and attract graduate candidates. These can include, but are not limited to, external internet sites, social media sites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), virtual reality, email campaigns, etc.
“Integrated” refers to targeted and cohesive marketing strategies which extend beyond brochures, websites and other digital media forms. Examples include videos, direct marketing, competitions, events (photos), internet banner advertising, media coverage, exhibition materials, or any other media that formed part of an overall graduate recruitment campaign.
The “Innovation” Award aims to recognize employers that have been the most innovative in the graduate market. The innovative measure must be new to the organization and/or market – something that has not been done before! This year’s winner successfully combined algorithms, artificial intelligence and gamification to advance and streamline an efficient, fun and effective application experience for graduates.
The “Supplier” Award recognizes the work of suppliers that operate in the graduate employment space and provides a platform for SAGEA members to share examples of excellent suppliers they have partnered with. This year’s winner partnered with Absa to customise and implement a graduate application process.
The “Employability/work readiness initiative” Award is focused on the University Careers Service that, using work readiness initiatives has shown evidence of preparing students effectively for a smooth transition to the world of work.
Participants were required to upload their Award entries, motivation and visuals to a specifically designed link on the SAGEA website. Once entries had closed SAGEA members were invited to review all of the entries and vote for their favourite entry in each category. Winners were thus determined by the number of votes received with the overall winner in each category receiving a Gold award, second place received a Silver award and third place a Bronze award. In some cases, there were joint winners of awards.
This year we introduced the Best Work Experience Award in which 11 Employers participated. Students who attended work experience programmes with these employers completed an evaluation of their experience.
