Qualification Verification Pilot With Absa Bank

Leaply partnered with Absa to design, deliver, execute and evaluate a qualification-verification process embedded in our ATS, addressing the challenge of validating self-reported qualifications at graduate-recruitment scale. For a single role, Absa received 1,522 applications and shortlisted 282 candidates. Our support team verified 846 qualifications in 10 business days, displaying a “Verified” badge and maintaining a central audit trail without changing Absa’s workflow. Throughput improved from ~5–6 minutes per check during ramp-up to 3.34 minutes per check in the final week, yielding an estimated 122–235 hours of time saved versus typical in-house manual checks (12–20 minutes). The solution strengthened data integrity, accelerated decisions, reduced operational burden and mitigated misrepresentation risk—delivered as a value-add at no additional cost. Co-defined acceptance criteria, escalation rules and post-pilot review evidence a true partnership aligned to Absa’s strategic goals. The approach is replicable for all clients and ready for broader rollout.

Bursary Admin & Student Success Support Excellence

After winning the bid to administer Astron Energy’s R24mil (150 students) per year contract since 2023, Excel@Uni has had the contract extended by another 3 years due to excellent feedback by client & students

Excel@Uni is an end-to-end bursary administrator that offers robust wrap-around support for student success. Excel@Uni provides a turnkey solution that entails all elements of the bursary ecosystem. Namely: recruitment, selection, monitoring, documentation, and support for all bursars. We have spent the past 10 years proving bursary admin support for the following types of bursaries: Staff/Employees, HR Talent, CSI, Community-impact (IPPs), and Employee-dependents. We’ve passed all audits for over 30 clients for the above, with a recommendation rating of over 80% by both clients and over 1200+ bursars.
We put technology and customer engagement at the centre of our services. We therefore compete effectively against incumbents with 20-40 years industry experience, because they have struggled to innovate and improve their information systems at a similar pace to the one we introduced into the market in 2015. Our efficacy is improved by the fact that we are the only black-youth founded, owned, and managed significant competitor in the sector, with a young team that is best-equipped to understand and engage bursary students more effectively than our competitors.

The annual improvements we make to our 3 student management systems were recognised by Google’s Global Founder’s Fund when it recognized us as one of the top 1% black-owned startups in the world (top 40 in Africa).
Mila- Weekly student academic & engagement monitoring (for early flagging of risks)-
Aura AMs- Application Management system that provides customised application forms and enables the recruitment process from application to automated contracting.
SimplyTutors- has evolved into a platform that allows students to book 1-on-1, group & workshop tutoring services. Helping students earn an income; while also allowing funders to easily manage the tutoring budget they make available to students in a very individualised way.

Our innovations continue to evolve annually in order to achieve the kind of scale needed to enable a funder as large as NSFAS, while saving smaller bursaries from investing millions in trying to develop non-scalable solutions to the challenges of scholarship management. Our annual system & service innovations have allowed our client to increase the volume of bursars they sponsor by about 5% each year, rather than cutting budgets.
